God is alive and well moulding and reshaping the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. S. Huguette and I don’t have to imagine a new congregation, it is our lived reality. Daily we taste and breathe fresh air as we open wide the doors, set aside our limitations, believe and trust. Helen Keller got it right – “Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing.”
Holy Names House of Peace, a refuge in the heart of Winnipeg welcomes ALL who hunger and thirst for justice, peace and understanding. Our doors are open 7 days a week on an average of 13 hours a day. Our committed extended community of 123 lay volunteers makes this possible. Each day they welcome about 150 people who come to reflect, pray, use the washroom or to participate in a variety of programs. Lord, we are not worthy that you should enter under our roof………………
Our core Holy Names live-in community is “Neighbours.” Each day we strive to love each other as ourselves as we embrace the richness of our diverse cultures, voices and experiences. We are composed of 2 SNJM sisters, 2 SNJM Associates, and 16 newcomer women: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Iraq, Rwanda, Korea, India and Philippines. We laugh, cry, and pray together in a multitude of languages, at a variety of times of day and night. We are Sikh, Muslim, Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic. We are ONE for we desire God, we desire what God desires, we desire God’s justice, tenderness and communion.
Our Holy Names Community is a mustard seed of amazing grace, rooted in the rich soil of our Founder and foundation. Our life together IS our ministry.
