Mélodie
Dufresne
Sister
Marie Agnes (1809-1881)
Mélodie
Dufresne was born in Beloeil. As a friend of Eulalie Durocher, she
helped her for about ten years in the rectory at Beloeil. She was
one of the three foundresses of the Congregation of the Sisters of
the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in Longueuil in 1843. An artist,
she directed the artistic work of the pupils. With much care, she
introduced them to the domestic arts and to decorative arts.
Sister Marie Agnes died at 72 years of age, and she had always honoured
the memory of Mother Marie Rose. (See
